Columbia Sportswear Ascender Softshell Jacket Review

It’s November in Kansas and that means that the temperatures are dropping quickly and the wind is turning cold and brutal.
And thus, I was in need of a jacket for this fall/winter season! As some of you might know, I am currently a college student. And many college students, like myself, don’t exactly have a lot of extra money laying around to be able to buy the fanciest gear that 1. Is comfortable and looks good and 2. Is durable enough to last on your next outdoor adventure. I have been looking at many different jackets that will keep me warm this winter season but also won’t break the bank. After a little researching I decided to pick up a Columbia Sportswear Jacket to help me fend off the cold this season. And I have to say I am thoroughly impressed so far! This is Columbia's Ascender soft-shell Jacket and it is arguably the most popular one they sell, and I can see why. The design is sleek and modern, the outer shell is wind and water resistant, and it’s a good price point (currently listed at $69.99 on their website) which was a huge selling point for me. But as I have worn it, it really is a nice jacket that exceeds in keeping you dry and blocking out the wind. It is not an extremely warm jacket, so you might need something else to go along with it, although it still does a good job at keeping you fairly warm. This jacket is also a very nice layering piece, as it can be used to go over sweaters and hoodies (which you can see I did in my photos), and it is also small enough to be used under most shell and other heavier jackets.
As I went out for a quick photo shoot while the leaves are still on the tree I made sure to grab it, and it didn’t fail to keep me warm as I could barely feel the wind in this jacket as I was standing out in the cold. If you are looking for a jacket that will keep you dry and warm in many weather conditions as well as blocking out the wind, but is also reasonably priced, look at picking up a Columbia Ascender soft shell jacket!
